Family law can range from the relatively straightforward to the highly complex, but almost every matter involves more than legal rules. It involves families, children, finances, property, businesses, and decisions that can affect what life looks like afterward. Those issues do not always stay neatly within family law. Real estate, debt and bankruptcy, business interests, estate planning, and immigration can all become part of the same matter. My job is to recognize those connections early and help you make decisions with the whole situation in mind.

A Broader Civil-Law Perspective
It is better for everyone when custody, property division and support can be settled by agreement, and I will always try for that first. But an attorney who is unwilling to try the case has very little leverage to settle one well. I try family cases — and that is usually what makes the settlement conversation productive.
